Since 2015, ICNA Relief Canada has greatly developed its Settlement & Refugee Sponsorship Program, providing the means for hundreds of Refugee Families to immigrate to Canada. Alhamdulillah, with the support of local sponsor groups, our sponsored refugee families have arrived in Canada and started to settle in cities such as Brampton, Brantford, Calgary, Chatham, Edmonton, Kitchener, Markham, Milton, Mississauga, Oakville, Saskatoon, Scarborough, St. Catharines, Toronto, and Waterloo.
Early on, our Settlement and Refugee Program was initiated to help with the Syrian Civil War crisis, but In 2018, in addition to Syrian refugees, we extended the program to refugees from Iraq, Myanmar, Somalia, Uyghur, Yemen, and more. Thus, we have changed the program name from “Syrian Refugee Sponsorship” to “Settlement and Refugee Sponsorship”, keeping the same acronym “SRS”.
Please note that ICNA Relief Canada is not a SAH. Thus, we cannot sponsor any refugee without a valid refugee status document (VRSD). ICNA Relief is a community sponsor (CS). Thus, we ONLY sponsor refugees who are recognized as refugees by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) or a foreign state.
Refugee sponsorship means, as a sponsor we must provide settlement and financial support to the refugees for the full sponsorship period. This is usually one year. There are different categories of sponsorship. However, as CS we ONLY sponsor refugee families either under BVOR or PSR programs.
To sponsor a refugee family, we need a local sponsor group. If you are interested in sponsoring a refugee family to Canada please email us at srs@icnareliefcanada.ca.
