Zakat

Empower Lives
Through Zakat

Your Zakat supports those in need across Canada and around the world. Every contribution provides food, shelter, education, and hope to vulnerable communities, transforming lives with compassion and accountability.

What is Zakat?

Zakat, or almsgiving, is one of the five pillars of Islam, along with prayer, fasting, pilgrimage (Hajj) and belief in Allah (SWT) and His Messenger, Prophet Muhammad (SAW). For every sane, adult Muslim who owns wealth over a certain amount – known as the nisab – he or she must pay 2.5% of that wealth as Zakat. This also includes assets such as gold, silver, precious minerals, property other than your home, pensions, shares and other investments.

Who Is Eligible To Receive Zaka

According to the Qur’an (9:60), there are 8 categories of people eligible to receive Zakat

Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [Allah’s blessings] upon them.
