The breakdown of essential public services, including healthcare, water, sanitation, and education, has worsened the already critical situation. Prior to the conflict, Yemen was already the poorest nation in the Arab region, facing challenges such as low human development, high population growth, recurrent local conflicts, chronic food insecurity, and an unstable political environment.
The economic situation in Yemen is dire, with the country having lost $90 billion in economic output and over 600,000 jobs. Currently, 58% of the population lives in extreme poverty.
